<reviewbody>Excellent late-night listening - some ethno influences alongside neat, low-key melodic electronics, in the fairly distinctive Webbed Hand style, even though it's by an external artist.</reviewbody>
<reviewtitle>Great low-key electronica.</reviewtitle>

Mystified – Cardboard Hotel EP

I’m glad I’m finally getting around
to doing some reviews for Mystified.
I’ve waited because Thomas Park has
such an extensive body of work on
Webbed Hand and its not so easy to
get a handle on what he's about
(I’ve been listening to as much as
I could squeeze in for going on two
weeks now).
I’m also going to come out and say
that I haven’t found all his work to
be as consistent nor as accessible
as I’d (selfishly) like. Having
said that, the Cardboard Hotel bears
"close" scrutiny. It really is
delightful and remarkable in its
ability to shift from a
minimal-concrete sound to a dark
beat-oriented approach. It also
keeps me interested, which not 'all'
the extended pieces on Webbed Hand
can do for me.
I will add that I was really
struck by the “Lost Hours” track
in particular on this work; it
feels like a (successful!) homage to
Jeff Greinke's style - just very
atmospheric yet with an urban
sensibilty (I'm actually reminded
of Greinke in general on this).
This is a great EP and it shows
that Park is an adept artist.
